Changing a kitchen sink means rebuilding everything underneath it. Done properly that is a clean, serviceable cabinet; done badly it is five leak points in a dark box.
The plumbing part of a kitchen sink replacement is rarely a straight swap, because the new sink almost never has the same basin layout as the old one. Going from a double bowl to a single bowl, or from equal bowls to an offset configuration, changes where the drains come down and therefore the whole trap and tailpiece arrangement.
Add in the fact that a modern kitchen sink cabinet usually carries a disposal, a dishwasher drain, a filtered water tap and sometimes an instant hot unit, and there is a fair amount to organise into a small space. Done well it is tidy and everything is accessible. Done badly it is a tangle of flexible waste pipe with several slip joints that will each weep eventually.
We rebuild the whole under-sink assembly on a sink install rather than reusing old parts. New tailpieces, new trap, new stops and new supply lines. Those parts cost very little and they are the components most likely to fail.
Sink types
What we fit, and what each involves
Drop-in (top mount)
Sits in the counter cutout with the rim on top. The most straightforward install, and the most forgiving of a cutout that is not perfect.
Undermount
Fixed beneath a stone or solid surface top. Cleaner to wipe down, but it needs proper support and a well-sealed rim. Usually set by the counter fabricator with us handling everything below.
Farmhouse / apron front
Needs a modified cabinet and specific support, and the front apron changes the sink height, which affects the trap arm. Best planned with the cabinet work rather than retrofitted.
Workstation and multi-level sinks
Integrated ledges and accessories. Plumbing-wise these are usually single-bowl installs with a standard drain, plus whatever accessories need water.

Rebuilding what is under the sink
The under-sink assembly is where a kitchen install is won or lost. What we aim for is the smallest number of joints, all accessible, all reachable without dismantling something else.
New trap and tailpieces. Rigid PVC or chrome-plated brass rather than the flexible accordion pipe sold in hardware stores. Flexible waste pipe collects debris in its corrugations and blocks.
Correct trap arm height. Adding a disposal or changing basin depth often means the trap arm has to move, and forcing the geometry instead is what produces slow drains and leaks.
New angle stops. Quarter-turn ball stops rather than old multi-turn compression valves, which calcify shut in this water.
Appliance connections done right. Dishwasher drain with a high loop or air gap, filtered water and ice maker lines on proper shutoffs, everything labelled and reachable.

How a sink replacement runs
Disconnect and remove
Water isolated, disposal and dishwasher disconnected, old sink out. Cabinet base inspected while it is visible.
Check the fit
New sink offered up to the cutout. Undermount and farmhouse sinks may need the counter or cabinet modified first.
Set and seal
Sink set, clips or brackets tightened evenly, and the rim sealed properly against water tracking underneath.
Rebuild below
New trap, tailpieces, stops and supplies, faucet and disposal connected, then run and checked under load.

Before you buy
What to check before ordering a sink
- Cabinet width, not counter cutout. A 33 inch sink needs a 36 inch cabinet. This is the most common reason a sink arrives and cannot be fitted.
- Bowl depth against the drain height. A very deep bowl can put the outlet below the trap arm, which then has to be lowered inside the wall.
- Faucet hole count and spacing. Sink, faucet, soap dispenser, filtered tap and air gap all need somewhere to go.
- Whether it is undermount-rated. Only certain sinks and counter materials suit undermounting.
- Gauge, if it is stainless. 16 or 18 gauge is noticeably more solid and quieter than 22. Sound deadening pads matter too.
- Whether the disposal will still fit. Deeper bowls and offset drains sometimes leave less room than expected.

Can you fit a sink I bought online?
Yes, and we will check the fit against your cabinet and counter before we start. The most common problem with online sink purchases is that the cabinet is too narrow — you need roughly three inches more cabinet width than sink width.
How long does a kitchen sink installation take?
A like-for-like drop-in replacement is usually two to three hours. Changing the basin configuration, adding a disposal or fitting an undermount sink takes longer, typically half a day.
Do I need a new faucet at the same time?
Not necessarily, but it is worth considering. The faucet has to be removed either way, the hole spacing on the new sink may differ, and fitting both in one visit costs far less than two separate jobs.
Can I go from a double bowl to a single bowl?
Yes, and plenty of people do. It means reconfiguring the drain underneath, because the single outlet will not line up with the existing trap. That is included in the pricing above and it is a routine part of the job.
Will you replace the shutoff valves?
We fit new quarter-turn stops as standard on a sink install. Old multi-turn compression stops calcify in this water and stop closing, and the water is already off, so it costs very little to do it now.
Is my cabinet base likely to be damaged?
Often, at least slightly. Kitchen sink cabinets take years of small drips. We will show you what is underneath once the sink is out, and tell you honestly whether it needs attention before the new sink goes in.
